Tio find out more about the event got to http://inflightdubai.com/c-news.html

The three-day tournament will see the sport’s best international teams do battle for a share of $200,000 in the tallest and largest indoor tunnel (5.03m x 20.73m) in the world. International judges will mark the teams and individuals on their performances with the prize-giving set for Saturday (November 28).

Despite just a year of team flying under their belts, Dubai-based sky- divers Naomi Kotzee and Shayni Couch are set to take on the world when the 2015 Clash of Champions, the world’s richest indoor tunnel flying event, gets underway at Inflight Dubai on Thursday (November 26)

Competing under the name “Password Is Taco”, the two girls will face a stiff test in the 2-Way Dynamic discipline and are hoping their own local knowledge will give a slight advantage in the world’s richest indoor tunnel flying event, staged under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai.

“Knowing the tunnel might just be in our favour,” said Kotzee, a South African who works as an instructor for Skydive Dubai and Inflight Dubai. “Each tunnel has it’s own little differences and to feel more comfortable and familiar is going to help us relax.

“But this will be our very first competition together as a team so our main aim is to have fun, to learn and to gain exposure – and to look good of course! We can’t wait to see what we can take from the experience and move on towards our next competi- tion. For us it’s going to be a lesson in what to expect from the sport in the future and how we can grow as a team.”

Korfball – Random Sport Generator

The RSG has been hard at work today and it has come up with the World Korfball Championships.

It looks like a less strict netball, more flowing and the goal is a yellow hoop without a net.

There are teams from all over the world competing and we are getting to the pointy end of the comp.

There is a website for more information at:

World Korfball Championships 2015 – Belguim

Wednesday, November 4 – Quarter Finals

England Game – 1600 CET – press play to watch

[su_youtube url=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2la8Nr10Q1E” width=”1600″ height=”900″ autoplay=”no”]

About the game:

Korfball (DutchKorfbal) is a ball sport, with similarities to netball and basketball. It is played by two teams of eight players with either eight females in each team or with four females and four males in each team. The objective is to throw a ball through a bottomless basket that is mounted on a 3.5 m (11.5 feet) high pole.

The sport was invented by Dutch school teacher Nico Broekhuysen in 1902. In the Netherlands, there are around 580 clubs and over 100,000 people playing korfball. It has a mixed-gender league and an all-women league, but no all-men league. The sport is also very popular in Belgium and Taiwan, and is played in many other countries. Mixed-gender korfball is more generally played in the north of the Netherlands, while all-female korfball is generally played in the south.

Rules and regulations

Equipment

Korfball basket with ball

Korfball is played inside in winter and outdoors in spring and fall.

The size of the indoor court is 20 x 40 m (22 x 44 yd), outdoor courts are 30 x 60 m (33 x 66 yd). The new outdoor courts size is 40 m x 20 m.The court is divided into halves called zones. In each zone is a 3.5 m (11.5 ft) tall post with a basket at the top. This is positioned two-thirds of the distance between the center line and the back of the zone.[1]

Team

A korfball team consists of eight players; all female, or four female and four male.[4]

Every team has their own coach, who can switch players during a match, negotiate with the referee, create the formation for the match and keep up the team’s spirit.[1]

Match

Korfbal match in the Netherlands

A korfball match consists of two periods of 35 minutes (the youth teams play 20, 25 or 30 minutes), with a break of 10 minutes in between periods.[1]

Four players of each team are in one zone, and the others are in the other zone. During the match they cannot switch zones. In the mixed gender league, men and women play side-by-side, but duels are man to man and woman to woman. However, it is allowed for a player to switch among opponents whom he/she is defending, as long as they are of the same sex.

At the beginning of the match one team chooses one-half of the court. That half will be their defending zone, with ‘their’ basket in it. Players score by throwing the ball through the opponents’ basket. After two goals, the teams change zones: defenders become attackers and attackers become defenders. In between those zone-changes, attackers cannot set foot on their defending zone or vice versa. At half-time teams swap halves.

The rules prevent physical strength dominating the game. Blocking, tackling and holding are not allowed, as well as kicking the ball. Once a player has the ball, one cannot dribble, run or walk with it, however, one can move one foot as long the other remains on the same spot. Therefore, tactical and efficient teamwork is required, because players need each other to keep the ball moving. A player may not attempt to score when defended, which occurs when the defender is in between the opponent and the basket, is facing his/her opponent, is within arm’s length and attempting to block the ball. This rule encourages fast movement while also limiting the impact of players’ height compared to their opponents.

Kabaddi, Kabaddi, Kabaddi

The famed sport of India is now here on Webcast Sport.

Live from the sub continent we bring you some competition from the:

Baradwal (Sangrur) Kabaddi Tournament

For the uninitiated it is sort of like British Bulldog,  but a bit more organised, coupled with the need to hop and chant Kabbaddi once the game is on.

Have a look it is captivating.

[su_youtube url=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1U8LjZs50BY” width=”1600″ height=”900″ autoplay=”yes”]

KABADDI – HOW TO PLAY THE GAME?

Team Game:

Kabaddi is a team game. Two teams, each having 7 in court players, compete with each other to get higher scores. Individual brilliance is exhibited when a player raids the opponent’s court. The team spirit, the team togetherness and team strategy comes into play when an opponent raider enters your court. The most important player requirement is stamina and lungpower. You should be able to keep your breath for a long time without any break in between.

What is a raid?

From your team you have to send, one player to the other teams court to raid. The raider starts from the centerline uttering aloud, “Kabaddi, Kabaddi, Kabaddi…” without any break. He would be actually running from one side to the other side of the opponent’s court trying to touch either with his hand or leg an opponent. Once he touches an opponent, he will, without breaking the “Kabaddi, Kabaddi…” rhythm come back to his court through the centerline. The people he had touched are his teams point scored. If he had touched one player, it is 1 point and if he had touched 3 players, it is 3 points to your team.

Defending and holding the raider:

The objective of your opponent, when your player is raiding them is different. They, as a team, would like to thwart the raider’s effort to score by touching any member of the opponent’s team and devise ways to trap and catch him without allowing him to get back to the center line and thence to his court. If the raider is caught and loses his chanting breath “…Kabaddi, Kabaddi, Ka…” he is considered out.

Lona:

If your team, because of its excellent efforts, makes all the players of your opponent out, your team is entitled to get 2 points as a bonus. This is known as “Lona”

Footvolleyball? RSG today… (Sepak takraw)

Okay, so we found this on the YouTube Live section.

I have no idea what it is called (Sepak takraw in fact), but it looks like volleyball played with football skills.

This is a competition played in South East Asia by teenagers, but very professionally covered, it is a championship of the sport.

It looks like fun though, perhaps it could be taken up in schools here as an idea?

A Semi Final today – I am getting addicted to this – C’mon England, get a team together.

From the Thai League

Final – Malaysia V Thailand

With minimum of research we have found this as an explanation of what is going on:

Sepak takraw (Malaysepak ragaJawi: سيڤق راڬا; Thaiตะกร้อrtgstakropronounced [tā.krɔ̂ː]Khmerសីដក់ Sei DakLaoກະຕໍ້ ka-tawFilipinosipaVietnamesecầu mây),[1] or kick volleyball, is a sport native to Southeast Asia.[2] Sepaktakraw differs from the similar sport of volleyball in its use of a rattan ball and only allowing players to use their feet, knee, chest and head to touch the ball. It is a popular sport in Southeast Asia.

In Malaysia, the game is called sepak raga or takraw. It is also kataw (Lao“twine” and “kick”)[1] while in Thailand it is called takraw. In Myanmar it is known as chin lone, and is considered more of an art as there is often no opposing team, and the point is to keep the ball aloft gracefully and interestingly. In the Philippines, besides “takraw” it is also known as sipa, meaning “kick”.

Similar games include footbag netfootvolleyfootball tennisbossaballjianzi and sipa.

Floorball – Neither had we…

Random Sport Generator  brings us Floorball, it is a cross between Ice Hockey and field hockey – it is played on a rink with a solid floor indoors with a round ball and  what look like Ice Hockey sticks, but there is no ice. Nowhere near as violent from what we can see and there is no padding helmets except for the goalkeepers.

So, here we present the European Floorball Championships live from Cesis, Latvia, every day until the 10th.
